Steve Irvine Cycles and Series Steve Irvine, a nationally recognized ceramic artist was born and raised in Burlington. This exhibition, drawing on work from the Permanent Collection and recent work by the artist, traces not only Irvine's vast range of technical abilities but also his fascination with the mathematical principles, such as geometric repeat patterns, fractals and chaos theory that he has continuously explored in his work. The exhibition will be supplemented with a selection of Irvine's simultaneous multiple exposure pin hole camera photographs.

Imperfection is often regarded as a qualitiy that gives character to an object. Examining ideas, from truth to materials, to notions of beauty (such as wabi sabi the appreciation of the ordinary, the worn or the damaged) to cultural (the deliberate mistake made to remind the artist that perfection is for God alone), this exhibition examines both the deliberate and the accidental flaws that give expression to an artist's work.

Ceramic, unless produced under the highest of industrial standards, is a notoriously difficult medium to control through the drying, bisquing and glazing processes. This exhibition explores the relationship between the highly skilled control of the material and the qualities of the work, from notions of beauty to the expression of emotions.

The art of drawing is not only important in the decoration of ceramics but also in the conceptual stage of development and as an end product in its own right. This exhibition compares the drawings of the ceramic artist with their three dimensional works, from the exploratory drawing sketch books of Ann Roberts, to the drawings on classical japanese printed wood block paper over layed with the tantric figure studies that form the relief surfaces of Paul Mathieu.

Built in 1978, the Burlington Art Centre was developed as an ideal home for the many visual art and craft guilds that had been active in Burlington since the 1950s. Currently, there are seven guilds that have fully-equipped studios at the Centre … Quilting, Photography, Handweavers and Spinners, Potters, Fine Arts, Sculptors and Woodcarvers, and Hooking Craft. Each guild runs a varied program to promote a greater understanding of their specific art form and to involve people as creators. The guilds represent an important point of access to the Centre as a whole. Typical guild participants will enter as beginners and, through classes, critiques, discussions and exhibitions; they develop themselves to a serious amateur or professional level.
Each juried exhibition includes a feedback session / critique with the juror and all artists who have submitted work(s). These are well-attended, provocative, and important educational events
